Steel plate heat treatment equipment: Fault diagnosis and handling guide

Forever Electromechanical

Steel plate induction heat treatment equipment serves as core production equipment for wear-resistant plates, high-strength structural steel and pressure vessel plates. With long-term continuous operation, electrical, cooling, heating and transmission faults may occur, directly causing plate hardness deviation, surface deformation and unexpected line shutdown. Forever Electromechanical summarizes typical fault diagnosis and standardized handling procedures to help global users reduce downtime and stabilize product metallurgical quality.

1. IGBT power cabinet abnormal power output

Power fluctuation and failure to reach rated heating power are the most frequent electrical faults. Typical manifestations include unstable current display, frequent overcurrent alarms and slow plate heating speed. The primary causes cover aging resonant capacitors, loose busbar connection and grid voltage fluctuation.

Diagnosis steps: First check HMI alarm codes and measure three-phase input voltage. Inspect the connection terminal of induction coil busbar for oxidation and overheating marks, then test capacitance value of resonant capacitors. If capacitor capacity decays, replace the matched group. When grid fluctuation is serious, install voltage stabilizer. Do not force high-power operation under overcurrent warning to avoid IGBT module breakdown. Forever’s after-sales team supports remote parameter inspection and online guidance for rapid power cabinet troubleshooting.

2. Cooling system failure triggering protection shutdown

The cooling system is the lifeline of induction heating equipment. Insufficient water pressure, pipeline scaling and pump malfunction will activate water shortage protection and stop heating immediately. Long-term poor water quality leads to scale accumulation inside induction coils, reducing heat dissipation and eventually burning the coil.

On-site handling: Check inlet water pressure and flow rate first. Clean filter screen and circulating pipeline regularly to remove scale. Replace aging sealing hoses with water leakage. Users should adopt deionized circulating water for the whole system. In daily maintenance, record inlet and outlet water temperature every shift to realize early warning of hidden risks and prevent sudden shutdown caused by coil overheating.

3. Temperature measurement deviation and uneven heating of steel plate

Uneven heating leads to inconsistent hardness, local overheating and plate bending deformation. The fault sources mainly include infrared pyrometer offset, coil position deviation and coil surface metal oxide accumulation. Temperature sensor contamination or wrong installation angle will also cause temperature reading distortion.

Troubleshooting: Clean the lens of infrared thermometer and recalibrate temperature closed-loop system. Adjust the horizontal height and gap of induction coil to ensure uniform magnetic field distribution on steel plate surface. Remove iron oxide debris attached to the coil surface. After adjustment, run test piece sampling inspection to verify hardness uniformity and modify PLC heating curve according to plate thickness and material.

4. Conveying mechanical system jamming and deviation

Continuous steel plate heat treatment line relies on roller conveyor. Roll surface wear, loose driving chain and roller misalignment will result in plate deviation, scratch or stuck halt. Serious deviation may hit induction coil and cause coil short-circuit and fire hazard.

Treatment measures: Shut down power and lock equipment before maintenance. Check roller parallelism and chain tension, replace worn rollers. Install limit sensor for plate deviation. Regularly lubricate transmission parts to reduce mechanical resistance. Operators should patrol the running track during production to discover abnormal vibration and plate offset in advance.

5. Standardized maintenance & fault prevention mechanism

Timely fault diagnosis reduces production loss, while preventive maintenance lowers failure probability fundamentally. Forever Electromechanical recommends users to build daily, weekly and monthly inspection schedules. Daily patrol focuses on alarm signals, water pressure and temperature; weekly inspection checks coil condition and electrical connection; monthly overhaul tests power module, sensors and transmission system.

For overseas clients, Forever provides spare parts package and professional technical training. The team adopts remote video diagnosis combined with on-site service mode. Standardized fault handling can greatly extend service life of steel plate induction heat treatment production line

, keep stable metallurgical performance of steel plates and guarantee continuous and safe production for metal processing enterprises worldwide.
