Standardized Induction Heating Parameters for Steel Billets Achieve Full-Scale Implementation, Empowering Profile Forging for Low-Carbon Mass Production with Quality Improvement and Efficiency Gains

Recently, China’s metallurgical hot working equipment base has completed the calibration and upgrading of the full-process heating process for the new-generation steel billet induction heating machine. The standardized full-set penetration heating parameters have been officially put into mass production in batches, fully matching the whole-process pre-operation of continuous forging and hot rolling for square and round billets. It complies with national energy consumption control standards, effectively solving common industry problems such as excessive temperature difference, heavy oxide scale and high energy consumption of traditional furnaces, supporting cost reduction, energy saving and quality improvement across the industrial chain.

The finalized core heating parameters adapt to mainstream mass production conditions. The applicable billet cross-section ranges from 40mm to 400mm, and the billet length is controllable from 0.5m to 12m, covering carbon steel, alloy structural steel and stainless steel. The standard forging outlet temperature is stably controlled at 1100℃—1150℃, with the radial cross-section temperature difference strictly limited within ±8℃, avoiding forging cracks and deformation caused by excessive core-surface temperature difference. The matched rated power is 100kW—4000kW with stepless regulation, and the linear feeding speed is precisely adjusted at 9m/min—15m/min, perfectly docking with continuous casting billet online synchronous heating production lines.

Supporting energy-saving and protection parameters are optimized synchronously. The comprehensive power consumption per ton of steel is controlled at 330kWh—360kWh, saving over 28% energy compared with traditional heating equipment. With closed oxygen-free micro-positive pressure protection, the surface oxidation loss rate is lower than 0.8%, greatly improving material utilization. Steady operation data proves the equipment can run continuously for 720 hours without failure under standardized parameters, fully adapting to 24-hour uninterrupted production. The standardized parameters are compatible with new and old production lines without large-scale infrastructure renovation, accelerating green and intelligent upgrading of the whole metallurgical hot working industry.
